3 type of 3D mapping which is commonly used in 3ds Maxs

In the lecture, I learn the 3D mapping, which is very helpful in making 3D model. What is 3D mapping? It is a technology that creates three-dimensional views of objects on computer screens. 

There is 3 way of 3D mapping which commonly used:

1.Displacement map.
->The most useful mapping methods. It help us to create the depth by the black and white color of a picture. (Black color is the concave and white color is convex.)




2.Specular map
->It help us to create refraction field to an object by using the picture.( The section with white color will refract the light.)





3.Bump map(don’t need photoshop)

->Create texture feel. This mapping could create the depth and texture quickly by just create it in 3Ds maxs.

As game designer, 3D mapping is very important because it help to reduce poly count in 3D model, lower the poly used in 3D, smoother the game play.

Why human can see black color?

In latest lecture, lecturer give us a question about why people can see black color...and no one can answer this question. We suppose to know this question since secondary school...Therefore, I going to do a revision for this.

Question:


Why people able to see black color object?

We can see the object because it reflect the light into our eyes. But black color can absorb light, it won't reflect any light, then how people see the black color object?

In my research, we able to see red color light, blue color light, green color light....White light is the combination of all light color, but we cannot see black light. It is because black color will absorb the all the light, there is no black color light.

We can see the black color object, but cannot see the black object if in the dark condition. This mean we can see the black color object not because of the reflection of light, but through the contrast of the black color object and other object color. In other words, if the other object color will reflect the red light,blue light, green light and other light to our eyes, then we able to see the black color object.

Three point lighting

Next class, my lecturer will teach us about what is three point lighting. To ensure me to understand what lecturer talking about, I decide to do some research about the three point lighting.

As its name, three point lighting is a method to light up the subject by using 3 light source which can greatly emphasize the silhouette of an subject.


Three light source in three point lighting:

1.Key light
-Is the main light source, usually is the strongest light in between. Commonly, it place in around front of the subject. Key light light up the whole image. It shine directly upon the subject.

2.Fill light
-Using a weaker light compare with key light, but bigger area. Commonly, it place in beside the key light. Fill light could increase overall brightness and also create good refraction of light of the subject.

3.Back light/Rim
- Produce weakest light from the back of the subject. It used in separate the subject from the background and look like having a certain distance.


In my opinion, three point lighting able to make the image look more interesting and make the subject could be see clearly. This method could really help us in making 3D model because, the 3D without light is look so boring and difficult to see the shape of it.

Today, I will list out the historical building which I will model it in 3D for assignment 2. Objective to post this blogger is for make wish from here, hope I could manage to done my assignment 2 safely.Those building are located in Melaka.

5.Independence- memorial

I choose those building as my model in assignment 2 because, it seem beautiful and historic. This assignment seem like very difficult, I hope I could manage to pass through this.

What is NPR rendering?

Today I check about the NPR rendering. Its full name is Non-Photorealistic Rendering
It is a very helpful function, it allow us to make a 3D. And we could convert it into to 2D graphics or 2D-style 3D game. With this function, we might no need to draw the 2D graphics every time while we want new pose, facial expression, angle and others.

In order to master the NPR function in 3D maxs, we have to know the space of the object very well. Although this function is very convenience, but it acquire a lot of knowledge in making it, have to make sure and check there is not problem in all angle, or else the picture will become very strange!


This function could reduce the cost in making 2D animation, but it will not very dynamic as the traditional 2D animation.


The picture above are the graphics made by 3Ds maxs with the rendering of NPR function. I really cannot notice and recognize these picture are originaly made by 3D.

NPR rendering frequently used in making Japan style game. It look like a 2D, but it IS 3D model. Therefore game developer could save their cost while making 2D game.

Conclusion, I feel the mighty of the 3D!


Bouncing Ball for the first assignment

Last week, I submitted my assignment 1 for the 3D animation. And I made a very crazy ball. Our first assignment is to create a 30 second video of bouncing ball which have their own thoughts, so I made a crazy ball which is crazy to bounce.

In the progress, in order to make a bouncing ball, it is no only made the ball moving, squash and stretch is the key to make it like a real bouncing ball.


While making the ball squash and stretch, I cannot maintain the shape of the ball, after I changed the shape, I waste a lot of time to change it back into original shape until I give up. In my assignment 1, I think a lot of idea to hide my mistake in squash and stretch like changing behind a building and move the ball fast to make the abnormal squash and stretch not so obvious.

I very suffering in making the bouncing ball although it just a 30 second video.Hope I could quickly get familiar with 3Ds Maxs.

Why I want to become a game designer

Why I want to become a game designer? One of the important reason is because I very interesting in how the game designer create 3D model in game. In the game, we could control the 3D unlike the 3D in film, I very curious with it.

The game which inspired me in making 3D is Left 4 Dead 2, in that game, we could download the MOD which no official made and change the model in the game. Is is very fun to play the map or character made by the other people. There are a lot of creative map and character, I feel envy as they able to create 3D for the game.



And I also get the information that 3D made by game designer is different compare to 3D animator, the 3D made by game designer must be low in polygon in order to made the game smooth. This information made me confirm my route toward my target. And now, I am on the way to create my own 3D character or map and made it playable by other people.

That is why I want to become game designer.
